Musings

The poem An Elegy on Iraq, if you can call it so, maybe purists in the art of poetry may not agree to categorise it under such a category. A prose-poem, not following the stipulations of poetry, maybe blank verse.
However, it does not convey my state of mind. I just penned it sometime back. It is not that I wanted to write a dirge or an elegy, it is just an overflow of powerful feelings as William Wordsworth says.
I will have to take a break for 4 or 5 days because of my work. Hope the muse continues to inspire me to write something worthwhile.

An Elegy on Iraq

Broken bridges, tattered buildings, shattered homes and desolate individuals with none to give solace,

A country which once boasted of rich culture and tradition is in shambles.

Here and there a pregnant woman giving birth to a child,

With none to sing paeans of praise for the newborn,

Human entry and exit from the world going unnoticed.

With the overwhelming advance of combat forces, an overwhelming number of derelicts.

Near and dear ones killed in crossfire strewn on the roads,

Many crumbling unable to match the superior firepower of the forces,

Many volunteering to die as fidayeens,

The rivalry and faction killings day in and day out,

Widespread destruction to human property and humans,

Hospitals flooded with the injured – broken limbs and broken hearts,

And the insurgency continuing unabated day and night assuming monstrous proportions,

With the casualty figures mounting with each passing day

portending ominous signs for this once hallowed country.

What is the future of this country?

May God’s Will prevail!

P.S: To be engraved as an epitaph on the tombs of the dead.

A Novice

I have entered the worldwide web of blogging. A new venture for me. Hope I don't get caught up by being totally involved, nor be too detached. I should not be like Abhimanyu who knew how to enter the Padmavyuha (lotus-shaped military strategem) and did not know how to come out of it.

Ok, see you soon.
